Job Description

We are seeking a dedicated and professional Conveyancing Legal Assistant with a keen interest in property law or a willingness to develop expertise in the legal processes involved in the purchase and sale of property.

The ideal candidate will possess strong administrative skills and a foundational understanding of secretarial procedures within a legal environment. While prior experience is advantageous, it is not essential. We are particularly interested in individuals who demonstrate a high level of efficiency, attention to detail, and the ability to communicate complex and sensitive information clearly and professionally to clients.

Key Responsibilities

  • Acting as the first point of contact for clients, providing a professional and welcoming service.
  • Managing client onboarding, including opening new files and obtaining all necessary documentation.
  • Conducting Anti-Money Laundering (AML) and identity checks in accordance with regulatory requirements.
  • Assisting senior solicitors with administrative tasks relating to property transactions, including legal documentation, financial matters, and contracts.
  • Ensuring all post-completion tasks are carried out promptly and accurately following property transactions.
  • Submitting SDLT (Stamp Duty Land Tax) returns to HMRC and ensuring timely payment.
  • Registering completed transactions with HM Land Registry and monitoring matters through to final registration.
  • Liaising with clients, mortgage lenders, estate agents and third parties to resolve post-completion queries.
  • Reviewing Land Registry documents to ensure accuracy before submission.
  • Managing requisitions from HM Land Registry and ensuring responses are submitted within specified timeframes.
  • Filing and archiving completed files in accordance with firm and regulatory procedures.
  • Conducting legal research and drafting various documents as required.
  • Maintaining regular communication with clients in a professional and courteous manner, providing updates and managing expectations throughout the transaction.
  • Managing time effectively to meet deadlines and work efficiently under pressure.
  • Contributing positively as part of a collaborative legal team.

Working Hours

This is a full-time, office-based position. The successful candidate will be required to attend the office five days per week, Monday to Friday, from 9:00 am to 5:00 pm.

Candidate Profile

  • Strong organisational and communication skills.
  • Excellent client-facing and interpersonal abilities.
  • Ability to deliver a high standard of client care and build positive relationships with clients and third parties.
  • Willingness to learn and adapt within a legal setting.
  • Capable of handling confidential and sensitive matters with discretion.
  • Strong attention to detail and the ability to work accurately under pressure.
  • A proactive, team-oriented mindset with a positive and professional approach.

This role offers an excellent opportunity for an individual with a genuine interest in property law. Comprehensive training and ongoing support will be provided to enable the successful candidate to develop their knowledge and skills within a supportive legal environment.
