Privacy Policy

Last updated: 10 June 2026

This Privacy Policy explains how Vaquill ("we", "us"), which operates the legal news, jobs, and resources platform at news.vaquill.com (the "Service"), collects, uses, and protects information about you. By using the Service, you agree to this policy.

1. Information we collect

Account information. When you create an account we collect your email address, a username, your selected country, and (optionally) your persona (student, practising lawyer, or employer). If you sign up with email and password, your password is stored only as a securely hashed value — never in plain text. If you sign in with Google, we receive your name, email address, profile picture, and Google account identifier.

Usage activity. We record actions you take on the Service — articles and jobs you view, votes, comments, saved items, follows, and karma. When you click "Apply" on a job, we record that you expressed interest and then redirect you to the third-party site where the application actually takes place.

Technical and analytics data. We collect approximate country (derived from your IP address at sign-up), and device/browser information and product-usage events via our analytics provider. We may record how you arrived at the Service (referrer and campaign/UTM parameters). IP addresses used for view counting are stored only in a hashed, non-identifying form.

What we do NOT collect. We do not collect résumés, CVs, salary information, or bar-enrolment details. Job applications are completed on third-party websites, not on Vaquill.

2. How we use your information

  • To provide, operate, and secure the Service and your account.
  • To personalise the jobs, listings, and content shown to you based on your country and persona.
  • To send you job-alert emails (which you can opt out of at any time) and essential transactional emails such as password resets.
  • To prevent abuse, spam, and fraud, and to enforce our Terms of Service.
  • To understand usage and improve the Service.

3. Emails

With your consent (opt-out), we send a daily digest of new legal jobs and internships relevant to your country. Every such email contains a one-click unsubscribe link, and you can also manage this in your account settings. Transactional emails (for example, password resets) are sent as part of providing the Service. Emails are delivered through Amazon Simple Email Service (SES).

4. Service providers and third parties

We share information only with providers that help us run the Service:

  • Supabase — database and authentication storage.
  • Amazon Web Services (SES) — email delivery.
  • Vercel and Cloudflare — hosting, DNS, and content delivery.
  • PostHog — product analytics.
  • Google — if you choose to sign in with Google.

When you click through to apply for a job, you leave Vaquill and are subject to the privacy practices of that third-party site. We do not control and are not responsible for those sites. We do not sell your personal data.

5. Cookies

We use a strictly necessary session cookie to keep you logged in, a short-lived cookie to secure the Google sign-in flow, and analytics cookies to understand usage. You can control cookies through your browser settings, though disabling the session cookie will prevent you from logging in.

6. Data retention

We retain your account information for as long as your account is active. You may request deletion of your account and associated personal data at any time (see "Your rights" below). Some records may be retained where required for security, fraud prevention, or legal compliance.

7. Your rights

Depending on your jurisdiction — and in particular under India's Digital Personal Data Protection Act, 2023 — you may have the right to access, correct, or delete your personal data, to withdraw consent, and to raise a grievance. To exercise any of these rights, contact us at privacy@vaquill.com. You can withdraw consent for marketing emails directly via the unsubscribe link or your settings.

8. Children

The Service is intended for users aged 18 and over and is not directed at children. We do not knowingly collect personal data from anyone under 18.

9. Changes to this policy

We may update this Privacy Policy from time to time. When we do, we will revise the "Last updated" date above, and material changes may be notified through the Service.

10. Contact

For any questions about this policy or your data, contact us at privacy@vaquill.com.
