Role Description The Associate Attorney will handle a full-time workload focused on family law matters, including divorce, custody, and related financial issues. Day-to-day responsibilities include drafting pleadings and motions, conducting legal research, preparing discovery, and managing case files. The role involves providing clear legal advice, meeting with clients to explain options, and helping them make informed decisions about their cases. The Associate Attorney will appear in court, participate in hearings and settlement negotiations, and collaborate with senior attorneys and staff to deliver high-quality representation. This is an on-site position based in the Columbus, OH Metropolitan Area, requiring regular in-person interaction with clients, courts, and team members.

Hourly Billing Requirement At WSM Law we value work-life balance. Therefore, the minimum billable hour requirement is only 1,200 hours per year.

Compensation The Associate Attorney's compensation will be in the $75,000 - $90,000 range depending on years of experience. Additionally, the Associate Attorney will be eligible for a quarterly production bonus of up to $6,000 per quarter.

Qualifications

  • Strong foundation in Law, with licensure (or eligibility for licensure) to practice in Ohio. Willing to consider strong law school graduate candidates currently awaiting bar results.
  • Experience or interest in Family Law and related issues that may intersect with family law matters.
  • Ability to provide clear, practical Legal Advice and counsel to clients in emotionally challenging situations.
  • Proficient in Research, including case law, statutes, regulations, and procedural rules.
  • Effective Negotiation skills for settlement discussions, mediation, and collaborative resolutions.
  • Excellent written and oral communication skills, including drafting motions, briefs, and client correspondence.
  • Strong organizational abilities and attention to detail, with capacity to manage multiple cases and deadlines.
  • Demonstrated empathy, professionalism, and commitment to client-centered advocacy.
  • Juris Doctor (JD) degree from an accredited law school; prior family law experience or clerkships are preferred.
