Role Description The Associate Attorney is a full-time, on-site role based in Indianapolis, IN. This role involves supporting senior attorneys with client counseling, case strategy, and the preparation of legal documents across RFSW’s core practice areas, including business law, estate planning, real estate, and dispute resolution. Day-to-day responsibilities include conducting legal research, drafting contracts, advisory memoranda, reviewing and analyzing transaction documents, and assisting with negotiations and settlement discussions. The Associate Attorney will meet with clients, attend hearings or closings as needed, and collaborate with colleagues to ensure matters are handled efficiently and in alignment with client goals. The role offers opportunities for professional growth, mentorship, and increasing responsibility in client-facing work.

Qualifications

  • Experience in the private practice of law.
  • Interest and legal knowledge in the areas of business law, real estate, estate planning, and probate.
  • Strong foundation in Law, with experience or coursework in Business & Corporate Law and related practice areas.
  • Knowledge of Business Law and its application in advising employers and business clients.
  • Ability to provide clear, practical Legal Advice focused on business, estate, and real estate matters.
  • Proficiency in legal Research, including case law, statutes, regulations, and secondary sources.
  • Effective Negotiation skills for transactions, contracts, and dispute resolution.
  • Juris Doctor (JD) from an accredited law school and active license (or eligibility for admission) to practice law in Indiana.
  • Strong written and verbal communication skills, including drafting precise legal documents and explaining complex issues in straightforward terms.
  • Ability to prioritize work and exceptional decision making abilities.
  • Ability to manage multiple projects at the same time and work in a fast pace environment.
  • Demonstrated attention to detail, sound judgment, and ability to manage multiple matters and deadlines.
  • Commitment to client service, professional ethics, and collaborative work within a small-firm environment.
  • Prior experience in a law firm, clerkship, or relevant internship is preferred but not required for well-qualified candidates.
