Experienced Family Law Attorney

About this role
Job Overview
We are seeking an experienced family law attorney for cases in Pierce and Kitsap County for a hybrid position. Family law can be difficult, and we specialize in the most challenging types of cases. Our cases are complicated and nuanced, and generally involve thousands of pages of financial documents, voluminous discovery, or thousands of Our Family Wizard messages. You must be capable of handling a dissolution matter from initial consultation through trial, while managing client relationships, court deadlines, and the complexities of high-conflict litigation.
Every client and every case is different, to ensure we are never bored. We are invested in providing zealous representation, from our clients’ physical safety to their long-term financial security. If you do not have experience with domestic violence protection orders, temporary family law orders, and emergency relief, and you have no interest in learning, please seek employment elsewhere.
We are not including a list of job responsibilities in this posting. If you are the right candidate, you already know what is required of a family law attorney. What we will tell you is that you will learn here. If there is a seldom-used corner of Washington law that touches a dissolution or family law matter, we have found it and used it for our clients. We also maintain a sense of humor, because without it, we would not have our jobs. Our jobs would have us.
A note to solo practitioners: if you are tired of managing your own overhead, chasing down administrative details, and running a business when what you actually want to do is practice law, we would like to talk. If you have built your practice alongside a paralegal or other staff members you trust, bring them. We are happy to welcome you both (or more).
We work hard to protect our clients, which sometimes means high-pressure deadlines. In exchange, we offer excellent pay, great benefits, quarterly bonuses, mentorship, a clear and genuine path to partnership, and flexible scheduling once you have earned our trust. And snacks, and your favorite non-alcoholic beverage. And stories worthy of an Oscar or an award winning novel.
What we are looking for
- Active Washington State Bar membership in good standing, required.
- Minimum five years of family law experience; ten or more strongly preferred.
- Familiarity with Pierce County (Tacoma) and/or Kitsap County (Port Orchard/Bremerton) Superior Court practice, local rules, and e-filing systems.
- Experience taking cases through trial or an demonstrated appetite to get there.
- Comfort with oral argument, including: temporary family law motions, DVPO proceedings, emergency restraining orders, and safety-focused representation.
- Strong legal writing skills for drafting motions, declarations, trial briefs, and correspondence.
- Ability to analyze and synthesize large volumes of financial records, discovery documents, and communication logs.
- Attention to detail.
- Include a cover letter with a description of a dog or your favorite local coffee shop.
- Sound judgment in client management and adversarial proceedings.
- Proficiency or willingness to learn MyCase, MyPleadings (or FamilySoft), Linx, Odyssey, and Tyler Cloud.
- Preference will be given to candidates who like dogs. (Cats are acceptable, we may think less of you, but if you have a cat, you are used to it. We have an office dog).
