About this role
Legal Counsel, Product & Regulatory | London HQ | Global payments
London, hybrid model
Up to £120,000 + bonus
Plenty of companies talk about changing how the world pays. This one is doing it.
We’re working with one of Europe’s most valuable fintechs, a London-headquartered payments business with offices across six continents. They build the technology that lets some of the biggest brands in retail, travel and tech take payments, process them and stay ahead of fraud. You probably haven’t heard of them, but you’ve almost certainly used something they power.
The Legal team is growing fast and has a clear ambition to beat expectations, not just meet them.
You’ll sit on the regulatory side, working alongside Product, Commercial, Treasury, Financial Partnerships and Compliance. They bring you in early, while ideas are still taking shape, and trust you to find the way to make them work.
What you’ll be doing
- Taking new payments products apart, from the flow of funds to the terms customers sign up to, and making sure it all stands up legally
- Being the go-to legal brain for the teams building and selling the product, giving fast, clear advice and creative solutions
- Working on licensing strategy and dealing directly with regulators as the business expands into new markets
- Playing a hands-on part in group-wide regulatory change projects
- Staying ahead of new regulation and telling the business what it means for products, operations and contracts before it becomes a problem
- Digging into the multi-jurisdictional questions that come with operating across the globe
Why this is a rare opportunity
- Brand-name customers and serious scale, so the work is high stakes and visible
- Real global reach, with exposure to regulators and markets well beyond the UK
- A growing legal team that sits close to the business and has a real say in what gets built
- A seat at the global head office in London, where the big decisions are made
What you’ll bring
- 3-8 years PQE
- A strong payments or financial services regulatory background, with a good grasp of the payments ecosystem and how licensing works in practice
- A solutions-first mindset, so you’re the person who finds the route rather than the one who points out the roadblock
- The knack of explaining complex regulatory points clearly and quickly
- Confidence with senior stakeholders and regulators
