Legal Counsel - Newcastle - Up to £70,000

A leading UK business is seeking a Legal Counsel to join its established in-house legal team based in Newcastle.

This is an excellent opportunity for a commercially minded solicitor looking to move in-house, or an existing Legal Counsel seeking broader exposure within a fast-paced and growing organisation.

Working as part of a close-knit legal function, you will advise stakeholders across the business on a wide range of commercial and regulatory matters, gaining exposure to varied and interesting work that goes far beyond traditional contract review.

The successful candidate will play a key role in supporting business operations, providing practical and commercially focused legal advice while working closely with senior management and operational teams across the organisation.

The Role:

• Provide legal advice on a broad range of commercial and operational matters
• Draft, review and negotiate commercial agreements with suppliers, partners and third parties
• Support the business on regulatory and compliance-related matters within a highly regulated environment
• Advise stakeholders on risk management issues and legal implications of commercial decisions
• Assist with data protection and privacy matters
• Provide support on intellectual property issues and brand protection
• Handle a variety of ad-hoc legal queries from different departments across the business
• Liaise with external legal advisers and regulatory bodies where required
• Work closely with operational and management teams to deliver practical, commercially focused solutions
• Develop strong internal relationships and become a trusted adviser to stakeholders throughout the organisation
• Contribute to legal projects and initiatives arising from the company's continued growth and expansion

About You:

• Qualified Solicitor status with 3+ years' PQE
• Experience gained in-house or within private practice, ideally with a commercial law background
• The ability to provide pragmatic, business-focused legal advice
• Experience handling commercial contracts and wider corporate advisory matters
• An interest in developing expertise across regulatory, data protection, intellectual property and compliance matters
• Strong commercial awareness and sound judgement
• Excellent communication and stakeholder management skills
• The ability to work independently and manage a varied workload with minimal supervision
• Strong organisational skills and attention to detail
• A collaborative approach and the ability to build effective working relationships across all levels of a business
