Job Description: Legal Manager Role Description We are a rapidly scaling fintech company operating in both B2B and B2C domains, seeking an experienced and proactive Legal Counsel to join our dynamic Legal team. This role will be critical in enabling our expansion into new products and markets by providing expert counsel on regulation, compliance, and contract management. The incumbent will serve as a vital connector between internal teams and B2B partners, leveraging a strong industry network and driving best legal practices. Additionally, he/she will manage relationships with external law firms to ensure efficient, cost-effective legal support. Key Responsibilities: 1. Regulatory & Compliance Expertise ● Interpret and apply core and adjacent fintech-specific regulations (e.g. Master Directions on Cards), legislation (e.g. DPDP Act) and compliance requirements across multiple jurisdictions relevant to new product launches and market expansions. ● Advise internal stakeholders (product, finance, marketing, and operations) on legal risks and compliance strategies relating to IP / Trademarks / Patents / Copyrights ● Monitor, communicate, and implement changes in regulatory frameworks impacting both B2B and B2C operations. 2. Contract Management ● Recommend Contract structures that balance regulatory compliance and meet business requirements ● Draft, review, negotiate, and finalize a wide range of standardized contracts including partnership agreements, vendor contracts, customer terms, licensing, and service agreements. ● Develop scalable contractual templates and frameworks to support rapid onboarding and minimize legal risks. ● Maintain a centralized repository of contracts, licenses, permits, IP/Trademark/Patent/Copyright approvals with up-to-date documentation and audit trails. 3. Stakeholder Engagement & Relationship Management ● Build and nurture strong interpersonal relationships with legal teams across FI clients, other partners (e.g. enterprise merchants, vendors), and internal cross-functional teams to facilitate smooth legal operations. ● Act as a trusted advisor, ensuring legal perspectives are effectively integrated into business decision-making. ● Lead training to improve legal awareness and compliance culture within the company. 4. External Counsel Management ● Manage, coordinate, and oversee external law firms, ensuring timely delivery, quality, and cost- efficiency of legal services. ● Evaluate and select external legal partners based on expertise, reputation, and alignment with company goals. ● Maintain controls over external legal budgets and reporting. 5. Industry Leadership & Best Practices ● Leverage an extensive professional network to stay at the forefront of industry trends, regulatory changes, and emerging risks. ● Propose and implement best-practice processes to enhance legal function effectiveness and compliance robustness. ● In absence of GC, represent the company at industry forums, associations, or regulatory discussions when appropriate. Key Deliverables:- ● Comprehensive legal frameworks and compliance checklists for all new product launches and market entries. ● Contractual templates and playbooks customized for B2B and B2C engagements. ● Quarterly legal risk assessments and compliance status reports shared with senior management. ● Documentation of external counsel engagements, including performance reviews and cost analyses. ● Regular training sessions delivered to non-legal teams on legal and compliance topics. ● Timely resolution of legal queries and contract negotiations to support business agility. Performance Metrics:- ● Regulatory Compliance Rate: Percentage of business units/products maintaining full compliance without major regulatory issues or violations. ● Contract Management: Standardization of contracts, average time taken to finalize contracts from initial draft to execution, number of audit findings. ● External Counsel Efficiency: Measured by on-time delivery, budget adherence, and quality feedback on external legal services. ● Stakeholder Satisfaction: Feedback scores from internal teams and FI clients on legal support responsiveness and clarity. ● Training Impact: Number of employees trained and post-training compliance improvement or legal awareness survey results.
