Role Description

This is a full-time on-site Legal Assistant (Family Law) role located in Surrey, BC at Ahuja Litigation Mediation Arbitration.

We are looking for a candidate who is seeking a long-term opportunity and is interested in growing with our team. This role is best suited for someone who is committed to building a career as a Legal Assistant in a law firm setting, rather than someone seeking short-term or transitional employment while completing NCA qualification exams, licensing requirements, or pursuing another career path.

The Legal Assistant will be responsible for:

  • Drafting/revising/proofreading pleadings and documents;
  • Preparing and coordinating for hearings and trials;
  • Preparing List of Documents for all files;
  • Conducting online legal searches and working directly with lawyers on all file matters;
  • You will be responsible for conduct of client files from start to finish with little supervision and must be able to work well independently and as part of a team; and
  • Attention to detail, great organization and the ability to work under pressure are all attributes of our ideal candidate.

Qualifications

  • 2+ years of family law experience would be an asset;
  • Certificate or diploma from the Legal Administrative Assistant program is an asset;
  • Attention to detail;
  • Task flexibility and ability to work on multiple tasks at one time;
  • Preparing correspondence including letters and emails;
  • Familiarity with the Supreme Court Family Rules;
  • Familiarity with the Provincial Court Family Rules would be an asset;
  • Preparing, filing, and serving Court documents;
  • Maintain a BF (Bring Forward) system;
  • Organized and able to work under strict deadlines, with an ability to prioritize tasks;
  • Maintain a calendar and appointments for 2 lawyers;
  • Basic familiarity or advanced knowledge of Microsoft Office, including Outlook, Word and Excel;
  • Familiarity with DivorceMate is an asset; and
  • Fluency in Punjabi and/or Hindi is an asset.

Job Type: Full-time

Pay: $40,000.00-$50,000.00 per year
