We provide specialist legal services to the Victorian Government and the broader Victorian Public Sector as part of our employment, industrial relations, discrimination and occupational health and safety practice. We also work closely with specialists in other branches of the VGSO in areas of law such as constitutional and public law, administrative law and commercial law. Our practice is a mix of litigious and advisory work, and the matters we work on are engaging and often attract significant public interest. We have an exciting opportunity for a solicitor or senior solicitor to join the team, and assist in responding to the ever-growing demand for our legal services. In our team, you will have the opportunity to work on a range of matters, including:* employment-related litigation, including unfair dismissal, general protections, sexual harassment and discrimination claims and industrial disputes;

  • advice on employment-related issues, including managing misconduct, performance and incapacity, workplace investigations, bullying, sexual harassment and discrimination complaints;
  • advice on all stages of the enterprise bargaining process (including preparing applications to approve enterprise agreements) and protected industrial action;
  • management of organisational change, including consultation obligations, redeployment and redundancy;
  • advice on executive employees in the Victorian Public Sector;
  • occupational health and safety matters; and
  • presenting training to clients on areas of the Branch's expertise.

Your skills and experience We're looking for someone who brings:* Strong legal research and analytical skills, with a demonstrated ability to navigate complex legal issues

  • Well-developed written and oral communication skills, delivering advice that is clear, authoritative, and tailored to client needs
  • Excellent interpersonal and client relationship management skills, with a collaborative and professional approach
  • Experience in workplace relations and/or occupational health and safety law
