About the Company A leading Australian multinational delivering essential services at scale across digital platforms is seeking an experienced privacy lawyer to join its Legal team . The Role Reporting to the General Counsel – Commercial & Data, this senior role leads privacy, data governance, and will also be responsible for AI advisory across the organisation. You will partner closely with the Privacy Office, Data Office, and business stakeholders to embed privacy-by-design across consumer, commercial, and internal operations.
Key Responsibilities:
- Providing commercially focused privacy advice that balances legal risk with business objectives
- Supporting end-to-end management of privacy incidents and supporting Privacy Act reform readiness
- Drafting, reviewing and negotiating privacy and data protection clauses in commercial agreements
- Advising on data governance frameworks, policies, and operational practices
- Provide legal guidance on AI and emerging technology initiatives,
- Identifying, assessing, and mitigating privacy risks across new products, services, and initiatives
- Advising on regulatory snd law enforcement obligations
- Managing external law firms.
Key Requirements:
- Ideally 10+ years’ PQE ideally combining top-tier private practice and in-house experience
- Previous experience in telecommunications or regulated digital environments,
- Proven knowledge of the Privacy Act, Telecommunications Act and Spam Act
- Strong drafting, negotiation, and analytical skills with a solutions-oriented mindset
- Excellent stakeholder engagement skills with the ability to influence senior leaders
- Leadership experience, including mentoring or guiding junior lawyers
- Highly autonomous, proactive, and able to manage competing priorities in a fast-paced environment
