About this role

The Company

Our client is a well-established and highly regarded Australian property and construction organisation with an impressive track record of delivering complex, large-scale developments across multiple sectors.

With a strong pipeline of projects and an integrated approach to project delivery, the business is recognised for its commitment to innovation, quality and long-term value creation. The organisation continues to invest in market-leading projects that shape communities and contribute to the built environment across Australia.

Supported by a collaborative and entrepreneurial culture, the business offers legal professionals the opportunity to work closely with senior decision-makers while gaining exposure to significant commercial and project-related matters.

The Role

An exciting opportunity has arisen for an experienced Senior Legal Counsel to join a high-performing in-house legal team.

Reporting to senior leadership and partnering closely with project, commercial and development stakeholders, you will provide strategic legal support across a diverse portfolio of major development and construction projects. This front-end focused role will see you involved in complex transactions from project inception and procurement through to delivery and ongoing operations.

Key responsibilities will include:

  • Drafting, reviewing and negotiating a broad range of construction, development and commercial agreements
  • Advising on procurement strategies, tender documentation and project delivery structures
  • Providing commercially focused legal advice on development, construction and property matters
  • Supporting contract management, risk allocation and project structuring initiatives
  • Assisting with dispute avoidance, claims management and resolution strategies
  • Partnering with internal stakeholders to facilitate successful commercial and project outcomes
  • Managing external legal advisers and supporting key negotiations with contractors, consultants and project partners
  • Contributing to governance, compliance and broader business initiatives as required

The Candidate

You will be a construction, projects or property lawyer with approximately 8+ years' PQE, gained within a leading law firm or sophisticated in-house environment.

You will also bring:

  • Strong experience advising on front-end construction, development and major projects matters
  • A solid understanding of construction contracting models, procurement frameworks and risk allocation principles
  • Experience supporting large-scale residential, commercial, mixed-use or property development projects
  • Strong commercial acumen and the ability to provide pragmatic, business-focused advice
  • Excellent communication, negotiation and stakeholder management skills
  • A proactive and solutions-oriented approach
  • The ability to operate effectively in a fast-paced and evolving project environment
