We're working with a Series A Fintech company building AI-powered software for the financial services industry. Their platform helps institutions make faster, more accurate risk decisions, and we're growing quickly in a regulated space where legal and compliance work is core to the business, not an afterthought.
About the role
You'll be our first in-house lawyer, owning the entire legal function from day one. You'll work directly with founders and leadership as a true business partner, not a gatekeeper.
What you'll own
- Commercial contracting with financial institution clients and vendors
- Enterprise sales support: negotiating and closing complex agreements in a regulated industry
- Regulatory and compliance guidance across financial services and data privacy
- AI governance and privacy-by-design, partnering with product and engineering
- Employment matters and corporate governance
- Equity, board-level legal work, and fundraising support
- Building legal infrastructure from scratch: templates, policies, and playbooks
What we're looking for
- JD and active bar membership in good standing
- 5+ years of legal experience in financial services, fintech, or SaaS
- Strong commercial contracting skills, able to negotiate and close independently
- Working knowledge of financial services regulation and data privacy law
- Comfortable building in ambiguity at a fast-moving startup
What sets you apart
- Prior in-house experience at a fintech or financial institution
- Exposure to AI governance or emerging AI regulation
- You've been the first or only lawyer at a company before
Compensation
Competitive base + equity. Range shared upon first conversation.
