Warren Recruiting's client is seeking an experienced and highly motivated Corporate Counsel to become the first attorney on its growing executive team. This is a unique opportunity to join a profitable, high-growth startup headquartered in Houston's Energy Corridor and play a foundational role in building the company's legal function.

With a team of approximately 75 professionals dedicated to operational excellence and continued growth, our client offers the chance to work directly with executive leadership while helping shape the legal and business strategy of an organization poised for significant expansion.

This role is ideal for a business-minded attorney who thrives in fast-paced environments, enjoys solving complex legal and commercial challenges, and has exceptional contract negotiation skills coupled with meticulous attention to detail.

Key Responsibilities

  • Lead the drafting, review, negotiation, and management of a wide variety of commercial agreements.
  • Serve as the primary legal advisor to executive leadership and business stakeholders.
  • Provide practical legal guidance on business operations, risk management, and corporate matters.
  • Develop and implement contract management processes and legal best practices.
  • Advise on regulatory, compliance, and governance matters affecting the business.
  • Partner with cross-functional teams to support strategic initiatives and company growth.
  • Manage outside counsel relationships as needed.
  • Help establish and scale the legal department as the company’s first in-house attorney

Qualifications

  • Juris Doctor (JD) from an accredited law school.
  • Active license to practice law in Texas and in good standing.
  • Minimum of 5 years of experience negotiating and drafting complex commercial contracts.
  • Exceptional attention to detail and strong analytical skills.
  • Ability to balance legal risk with business objectives.
  • Excellent communication, negotiation, and relationship-building skills.
  • Self-starter who is comfortable working independently while collaborating across teams.
  • Strong organizational skills and ability to manage multiple priorities in a dynamic environment.

Preferred Experience

While not required, experience in any of the following areas is highly valued:

  • Government contracting
  • General commercial and corporate law
  • Regulatory compliance
  • Startup or high-growth company environments
  • Aviation law
  • Environmental law

Compensation & Benefits
