About this role

IS THIS YOU?

While we love meeting new people, we’re looking specifically to add people who closely align with our mission, vision, and values. Before you apply, please read this list carefully.

  • You naturally look for ways to make your team stronger and help out where needed rather than asking, "Is that my job?"
  • You thrive in fast-paced environments where priorities change and new challenges appear daily.
  • You are highly organized and details rarely slip through the cracks.
  • You genuinely enjoy helping people and understand that exceptional client service matters.
  • You communicate professionally and confidently, including with clients, courts, opposing counsel, and coworkers, even when situations become stressful.
  • You take pride in being the person who gets things done when others are overwhelmed.
  • You accept feedback without taking it personally and use it as an opportunity to improve.
  • You enjoy learning new systems, technology, and processes.
  • You see obstacles as problems to solve, not excuses to make.
  • You care more about the success of the team than receiving individual credit.
  • You would rather own a mistake and fix it than spend time explaining why it happened.
  • You believe office drama, gossip, negativity, and finger-pointing have no place on a high-performing team.
  • You want more than just a job, you want an opportunity to grow with a firm that is actively building something special.

If most of these statements describe you, we'd love to hear from you.

ABOUT CERULEAN LAW GROUP

Cerulean Law Group is a growing law firm based in Leesburg, Virginia, serving clients in various matters within the core legal disciplines of criminal defense, personal injury, estate planning, and civil litigation (mostly business / real estate law).

We're building something bigger than a traditional law firm.

Our vision is to become a premier multi-practice, multi-jurisdictional firm known for exceptional client service, high-level legal work, and a culture of professionalism, accountability, and continuous growth.

We're looking for people who want to help build that future alongside us.

This is not a position for someone looking to do the bare minimum and collect a paycheck. It is an opportunity for someone who wants to grow professionally, contribute meaningfully, and become an important part of a firm with significant long-term ambitions.

The right candidate will not simply complete assigned tasks. They will actively look for ways to improve systems, support attorneys, serve clients, and help the firm operate more efficiently.

THE OPPORTUNITY

We are seeking a Paralegal / Legal Services Assistant, which will involve a blend of administrative support, client communication, case management, intake support, litigation support, and general legal operations.

As the firm grows, we expect this role to evolve based on the strengths and interests of the person we hire, who will grow into an increasingly advanced paralegal role over time.

WHAT YOU'LL DO

Responsibilities include:

  • Managing client communications and maintaining exceptional client service
  • Answering and directing incoming calls
  • Scheduling consultations, meetings, hearings, and deadlines
  • Assisting with client intake and onboarding
  • Drafting correspondence and legal documents
  • Managing case files and document organization
  • Filing pleadings and documents with courts and administrative agencies
  • Coordinating with court personnel, opposing counsel, clients, experts, and vendors
  • Conducting factual research
  • Assisting attorneys with litigation, hearings, trials, and case preparation
  • Supporting estate planning, business, and transactional matters
  • Maintaining accurate case information within MyCase (software system)
  • Identifying opportunities to improve processes and workflows
  • Taking ownership of projects and helping attorneys stay ahead of deadlines and client needs

WHAT WE'RE LOOKING FOR

Required

  • A team-first attitude, strong initiative, and a willingness to take ownership
  • Strong organizational skills and attention to detail
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills
  • Professional demeanor and strong interpersonal skills
  • Ability to prioritize and manage multiple responsibilities simultaneously
  • Strong problem-solving skills and resourcefulness
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Word, Excel, Outlook, and PowerPoint
  • High integrity and professionalism

Preferred

  • Associate's degree or higher
  • Two or more years of professional experience
  • Legal assistant, paralegal, or law office experience
  • Experience with MyCase
  • Familiarity with Virginia court systems and procedures
  • Experience with OCRA, File & Serve Xpress, or similar legal platforms
  • Bilingual abilities, particularly Spanish
  • Experience interacting directly with clients in a professional setting

Most Important

While experience matters, we place even greater value on work ethic, ownership, coachability, professionalism, and cultural fit. Skills can be taught. Attitude, integrity, and initiative are much harder to develop.

An exceptional candidate with less legal experience may be a stronger fit than a more experienced candidate who lacks those qualities.

OUR CULTURE

At Cerulean Law Group, we work hard, maintain high standards, and hold ourselves accountable to both our clients and one another. We believe exceptional results are produced by people who take ownership of their work, embrace responsibility, and remain committed to continuous improvement.

We view feedback as a gift and believe that growth requires both humility and coachability. As a result, we actively invest in learning, professional development, and personal growth. We believe continuous learning is a competitive advantage and encourage our team members to develop themselves both inside and outside the office.

Our culture is built on professionalism, integrity, teamwork, and a shared commitment to excellence. We strive to create an environment where people support one another, communicate openly, solve problems collaboratively, and take pride in helping both clients and teammates succeed.

Just as importantly, we are intentional about protecting our culture. We have zero tolerance for gossip, office politics, negativity, entitlement, or drama. The people who thrive here are those who embrace challenges, welcome responsibility, continuously seek improvement, and genuinely care about contributing to something larger than themselves.

COMPENSATION & GROWTH

  • Full-time position: Monday through Friday, 8:00 a.m. to 5:00 p.m.
  • In-office in Leesburg, Virginia; future hybrid flexibility may be available based on performance and firm needs
  • Hourly compensation generally ranging from $24-$40+ per hour, commensurate with experience, qualifications, and demonstrated ability
  • Performance-based bonuses may be available
  • Additional benefits are expected to be added as the firm continues to grow

Most importantly, we offer significant long-term growth opportunities.

We are intentionally building this firm for the future. The person we hire today will have an opportunity to help shape not only their own role, but the future growth of Cerulean Law Group itself. We are looking for someone who wants to grow with us, not simply fill a seat.

As the firm grows, this role is likely to evolve into a specialized paralegal position, client experience role, office management position, operations leadership role, or another path based on your strengths, interests, and contributions.

HOW TO APPLY

To help us identify candidates who are serious about joining our team and building with us, please include a cover letter answering the following questions:

  • Why does the opportunity to help build this law firm appeal to you?
  • What is the most valuable professional feedback you have ever received?
  • What is the most difficult professional feedback you have ever received?
