Experience Level: 3+ years’ of general regulatory, administrative law, and/or litigation experience; energy experience preferred but not required

About the Role: Harris Beach Murtha’s Energy Industry Team is seeking an associate to support a broad range of regulatory and litigation matters. This role offers the opportunity to work closely with team members and clients on issues related to project development and siting, regulatory compliance, enforcement proceedings, and dispute resolution. Our clients span the energy sector and include electric generation and battery storage facility owners, transmission companies, utilities (electric, gas, and water), energy service companies, submetering providers, and large commercial energy users.

The Energy Associate will have the opportunity to:

  • Represent clients with regulatory matters before state and federal administrative agencies
  • Support project development by planning pre-application strategy, preparing and filing applications, and securing permits
  • Conduct legal research on federal and state statues, regulations, and agency orders, and draft memoranda
  • Draft a variety of legal documents, including administrative petitions, agency comments, complaints and answers, memoranda of law, and discovery materials

Work Environment and Expectations:

  • A hybrid work opportunity in Harris Beach Murtha’s Albany, NY or New Haven, CT office
  • Minimum annual billable requirement of 1800 hours

  • Juris Doctorate from an ABA-accredited law school
  • Admission to New York State Bar (or ability to waive in)
  • Strong legal research and writing skills
  • Excellent verbal communication skills
  • Ability to manage multiple priorities in a fast-paced, team-oriented environment
  • Strong organizational and time management skills
  • Ability to quickly absorb and analyze new information
  • High attention to detail and commitment to quality work
  • Professional, collaborative, and adaptable approach
  • Ability to work effectively with individuals at all levels of the organization
  • Military experience welcome

Salary information below will vary depending relevant experience for the position and geographic locations.

Albany, NY: $130,000 – 175,000

New York, NY: $148,000 - $185,000
