About this role
Job description:
Job Overview Champion Injury Attorneys is a small but growing personal injury law firm dedicated to fighting for justice and helping our clients rebuild their lives. We are seeking a motivated and experienced attorney whose focus is primarily pre-litigation—evaluating claims, building case value, and negotiating strong settlements—with some matters moving into litigation. For attorneys who want courtroom experience, there is also the opportunity to take cases to trial. This is a key position where you will wear many hats, help grow the firm, and, for the right candidate who proves to be a strong long-term fit, work toward a potential partnership track. If you want the chance to try cases, that path is open to you here—but no prior trial experience is required.
If you thrive in a hands-on environment and are passionate about client advocacy, we want to hear from you.
We respect your privacy – all applications are strictly confidential.
What You’ll Do
- Manage a full caseload of personal injury matters—including motor vehicle accidents, slip-and-fall, premises liability, and wrongful death—primarily at the pre-litigation stage, from intake and demand negotiations through settlement, with some cases continuing into litigation.
- Case Analysis and Strategic Oversight: Perform comprehensive evaluations of claims to assess liability, damages, and case value. Develop and implement strategic recommendations for resolution, including drafting and reviewing demand packages, guiding case managers on execution, and carrying cases into litigation when a fair resolution cannot be reached.
- Litigation: When a case moves into litigation, handle the full litigation cycle—filing complaints and pleadings; drafting and arguing dispositive and pre-trial motions and law and motion; propounding and responding to written discovery; taking and defending depositions of parties, witnesses, and experts; making court appearances; and conducting legal research and writing.
- Trial (optional): If you want courtroom experience, you’ll have the opportunity to take cases to trial as second or first chair—including trial strategy, motions in limine, jury selection, opening and closing arguments, and witness examination. Trial work is an opportunity, not an expectation, and no prior trial experience is required.
- Settlement & Negotiation: Negotiate pre-litigation and litigation settlements with insurance companies and defense counsel, pursue policy-limits results, and oversee lien negotiations with medical providers.
- Supervise, mentor, and collaborate with junior attorneys, case managers, and support staff to ensure cases move forward efficiently.
- Step in to “pick up the slack” where needed to support the team and ensure excellent client service.
- Monitor statutes of limitations and take timely action on all files.
- Communicate with clients regularly to provide updates and guidance throughout their case.
- Help develop and improve internal processes as the firm grows.
What We’re Looking For
- Active California Bar License and in good standing.
- 3+ years of personal injury experience, primarily in pre-litigation; litigation required.
- Trial experience is a plus, but not required—you will have the opportunity to try cases if you want it.
- Strong negotiation and advocacy skills with a proven track record of securing favorable settlements.
- Skilled at establishing liability and aggressively advancing cases where liability is disputed.
- Strong command of California civil procedure, evidence, and personal injury law.
- Experience drafting and arguing dispositive and pre-trial motions.
- Strong oral and written advocacy and persuasive communication skills.
- Hands-on approach with the flexibility to work across multiple responsibilities in a growing firm.
- Excellent communication, organizational, and client service skills.
- Filevine experience is a plus.
- Leadership qualities and the desire to grow with the firm, including toward a potential partnership track, are highly valued.
