About the Role

We are seeking a motivated and enthusiastic Family Paralegal to join our busy and growing Family Law department. Reporting directly to the Head of Department and supporting fee earners across the team, the successful candidate will assist in delivering high-quality legal services across a wide range of Family and Children Law matters, including both private and public law cases.

This is an excellent opportunity for a candidate looking to build or develop a career in Family Law. You will gain hands-on experience supporting solicitors with complex and sensitive matters, while developing your own legal knowledge and practical skills in a supportive and professional environment.

The role requires strong organisational skills, attention to detail, and the ability to manage competing priorities. You will also be expected to demonstrate initiative, professionalism, and a commitment to delivering excellent client care at all times.

Person Specification & Requirements

  • Law degree (LLB) or equivalent legal qualification
  • Previous experience in a Family Law environment or legal setting is desirable
  • Knowledge or exposure to Legal Aid work and CCMS is advantageous
  • Strong organisational and time-management skills, with the ability to prioritise tasks effectively
  • Excellent attention to detail and accuracy
  • Strong written and verbal communication skills
  • Personable, professional, and confident when dealing with clients and colleagues
  • Ability to work effectively both independently and as part of a team
  • Proactive and enthusiastic approach, with a “can do” attitude
  • Genuine interest in Family and Children Law
  • Ability to handle sensitive matters with discretion and empathy
  • IT proficient, with experience using case management systems desirable

Key Responsibilities

    • Assisting solicitors and fee earners with a range of Family and Children Law matters, including:
  • Private children law cases
  • Public law proceedings
  • Domestic abuse matters
  • Non-molestation and occupation order applications
  • Drafting legal documents, correspondence, and court applications under supervision
  • Preparing bundles and supporting documentation for court hearings
  • Liaising with clients, courts, counsel, experts, and third parties as required
  • Arranging and attending client meetings, taking accurate attendance notes where necessary
  • Assisting with the preparation and submission of CCMS applications, amendments, and supporting documentation
  • Managing and maintaining case files, ensuring accuracy and compliance with firm procedures
  • Updating and monitoring cases through the firm’s case management system and relevant online portals
  • Conducting legal research and assisting fee earners with case preparation
  • Ensuring all work is completed in line with regulatory and Legal Aid requirements
  • Providing a high level of client care, responding to enquiries professionally and efficiently
  • Supporting fee earners with diary management, file progression, and administrative tasks
  • Assisting with billing processes and file closure procedures
  • Maintaining confidentiality of all client and firm information in accordance with GDPR
  • Keeping up to date with developments in Family Law through training and reading
  • Supporting the team with general administrative duties as required
  • Participating in business development activities where appropriate, including networking and firm initiatives
  • Undertaking any additional duties as required by the Head of Department or Directors
