About this role
We're partnering with an exciting, fast-scaling MedTech company using AI to transform how one of the deadliest diseases is diagnosed and treated. Their FDA-cleared and CE-marked products are already in clinical use and deployed across multiple hospitals and health systems.
This is a strong opportunity for a qualified solicitor ready to step into a senior, delivery-focused role , with clear ownership of the company's legal function.
LOCATION & WORKING MODEL
Hybrid working with 2 days in the company's Oxford office is preferred. Remote working is supported for exceptional candidates.
KEY RESPONSIBILITIES
1. Commercial contracting & QMS
- Lead negotiation of & draft contracts for customer, partner, supplier, licensing, consultancy, R&D, and data agreements across the UK, US, and other jurisdictions.
- Own and improve contract templates, playbooks, approval processes, and QMS-controlled commercial legal documentation.
- Lead data protection contracting and compliance across UK GDPR, EU GDPR, HIPAA, DPAs, BAAs, PIAs, transfers, and incident readiness.
2. Regulatory, product, & quality compliance
- Partner with RAQA on legal risk across product development, clearance, deployment, post-market surveillance, and ISO 13485 QMS obligations.
- Review product claims, labelling, marketing materials, publications, and customer communications for regulatory and advertising compliance.
- Support IP strategy, including patent counsel coordination, freedom to operate, IP ownership, confidentiality, and trade secret protection.
3. Corporate, financing, and governance
- Support financings, shareholder matters, share option administration, M&A activity, and external corporate counsel management.
- Own practical company secretarial and governance support, including board materials, filings, entity management, and policy alignment.
- Advise on day-to-day UK and US employment matters, manage specialist counsel, and help bring external legal work in-house over time.
IDEAL CANDIDATE
- Qualified as a solicitor or barrister in England and Wales, with 4-8 years’ post-qualification experience.
- Strong commercial contracting experience, ideally in software, life sciences, healthcare, or another regulated B2B environment.
- Experience working on cross-border matters, particularly across the UK and US.
- Practical data protection knowledge, including UK GDPR, with the ability to apply privacy principles in commercial technology contexts.
- Sufficient working knowledge of UK employment law to manage day-to-day in-house matters and know when specialist advice is needed.
- Excellent drafting and communication skills, with the ability to produce clear, business-appropriate advice and contract language at pace.
- A commercially pragmatic approach to legal risk, balancing defensible judgement with the company’s strategic and commercial objectives.
- Confidence operating in a fast-moving, high-growth environment, making sound decisions with incomplete information and revisiting them as facts evolve.
- A collaborative, cross-functional working style, with the ability to work independently and partner effectively, especially with commercial teams.
- An interest in regulated MedTech, AI, and health technology, with the judgement and curiosity to understand the responsibilities of a regulated medical device manufacturer.
