About this role
Client Legal Solutions is seeking a capable Property / Commercial Lawyer to join our team.
This is an important role within our firm, working closely with Directors Michael Stocker and Gary Stocker, as well as our wider property and commercial team. The role is primarily focused on property transactions, including residential, commercial and rural property, property development, and subdivision work.
We are interested in hearing from candidates at Senior Solicitor, Associate or Senior Associate level. Just as importantly, we are open to shaping the role around the right person’s experience, strengths, interests and career goals.
The role will ideally be based in our Nelson office, although we are also open to a Richmond or Motueka office-based arrangement if that better suits the right candidate. Relocation assistance is available for the right candidate.
The Opportunity
This is a meaningful, senior role in a well-established Nelson/Tasman law firm. For the right person, it provides a clear and exciting opportunity for long-term growth, senior leadership, and potential director succession.
The immediate opportunity is to help strengthen our property and commercial capacity, support the continued development of our property team, and to service a strong and varied existing client base.
There is also real scope to take ownership of leadership, process improvements, and the ongoing development of this important area of the firm.
Depending on your experience, the role may include:
- Managing residential, commercial and rural property matters
- Leading more complex property transactions
- Supporting property development and subdivision work
- Wider business and asset planning advice
- Providing troubleshooting and technical support to the property team
- Mentoring, supervising, or supporting team members
- Contributing to the ongoing improvement of systems, processes and team capability
You’ll be directly supported by an excellent team of two senior legal executives, a solicitor and a property team assistant, along with wider support from directors and other experienced, helpful staff within the firm.
This is not a “one size fits all” appointment. We are genuinely open to shaping the position around the successful candidate.
About you
We would welcome interest from candidates who have:
- 4+ years’ post-admission experience
- Experience and comfort in property transactions
- Sound technical ability and professional judgment
- Confidence managing files and client relationships
- A practical, client-focused approach
- A collaborative style and willingness to support others
- A drive to succeed to, strengthen and grow a successful property/commercial practice
Experience in property development or team supervision would be a strong advantage, but it is not essential.
Most importantly, we are looking for someone who is capable, practical, values-driven and positive — someone who enjoys working collaboratively with clients and colleagues, and who wants to be part of a firm where people are genuinely supported to do good work and develop themselves and their careers .
