About this role

We are a small, established family law firm looking for a skilled Family Law Paralegal to join our team.

This is a great opportunity for someone who enjoys meaningful, client-focused work, wants direct involvement in files, and prefers a collaborative boutique-firm environment over a large-firm structure.

About the Role:

The successful candidate will support our lawyers with all aspects of family law files, including separation, divorce, parenting, support, property division, agreements, mediation, and court proceedings.

You will assist with drafting documents, preparing financial statements and disclosure, organizing files and documents, communicating with clients and counsel, managing deadlines, and preparing court and mediation materials.

Responsibilities:

Your work will include:

  • Drafting and revising family law pleadings, correspondence, affidavits, financial statements, consent orders, desk order divorce, separation agreements, and other court forms.
  • Preparing and organizing financial disclosure.
  • Managing file deadlines, court dates, and follow-up tasks.
  • Communicating with clients, opposing counsel, court registries, and third parties.
  • Preparing application records, hearing materials, mediation briefs, and trial materials.
  • Filing and arranging service of court documents.
  • Maintaining organized physical and electronic files.
  • Assisting with general administrative and billing-related tasks as needed.

What We’re Looking For:

The ideal candidate has:

  • Previous family law experience in British Columbia.
  • A paralegal diploma, legal administrative assistant certificate, or equivalent practical experience.
  • Knowledge of BC Supreme Court and Provincial Court Family Rules and procedures.
  • Experience preparing family law court forms and financial disclosure.
  • Strong drafting, proofreading, and organizational skills.
  • Excellent attention to detail.
  • A professional and empathetic approach to client communication.
  • The ability to work independently while also contributing to a small team.
  • Good judgment, discretion, and reliability.
  • Experience with Court Services Online, BC Online, Microsoft Office, Adobe Acrobat, and legal practice management software.

Why Join Us

We offer:

  • A supportive boutique firm environment.
  • Direct involvement with lawyers and client files.
  • A varied and meaningful family law practice.
  • A collegial team of three lawyers.
  • Opportunity for responsibility and professional growth.
  • Competitive compensation based on experience.

Compensation
