About this role

A career as a Senior Legal Advisor on the Personal and Commercial Compliance team at National Bank means acting as a leader in regulatory compliance. In this key role, you actively contribute to sound risk management, particularly in areas such as anti-money laundering, consumer protection, and compliance of international activities. This position allows you to influence the Bank’s strategic direction and ensure rigorous oversight of practices, leveraging your expertise in regulation, international financing, and complex risk management.

Your role

  • Provide strategic advice on international regulatory compliance and recommend appropriate courses of action
  • Lead complex mandates and define regulatory positions aligned with business priorities
  • Influence and support stakeholders, including senior management, in managing regulatory risks
  • Develop, evolve, and oversee compliance and regulatory supervision programs
  • Lead the preparation of strategic materials for decision-making bodies and ensure proper reporting
  • Analyze regulatory impacts and propose solutions tailored to financing activities and international operations

Your team Within the Risk Management sector, you are part of a team of about ten colleagues and report to the Senior Director, Conduct and Compliance, Personal and Commercial. Our team fosters strong collaboration with partners across sectors and stays at the forefront of emerging trends to continuously enhance compliance frameworks. Prerequisites

  • Bachelor’s degree in Law and 7 to 10 years of relevant experience in legal and compliance roles
  • Membership with the Barreau du Québec, Chambre des notaires, or another Canadian bar association
  • Proven experience in regulatory compliance or risk management within the financial services industry
  • Strong knowledge of Canadian banking regulations and a good understanding of international frameworks
  • Good understanding of banking activities (Personal and Commercial) and related processes
  • Experience handling complex mandates, including strategic or international matters
  • Experience working in multidisciplinary environments or on large-scale initiatives
