About the Role

C.WHY Legal Professional Corporation is seeking an organized, detail-oriented, and tech-savvy Law Clerk to join our growing team.

The successful candidate will primarily support family law and civil/business litigation files. We are looking for someone who takes ownership of their work, manages deadlines carefully, communicates professionally, and looks for efficient ways to move files forward.

This is a hybrid position with flexibility to work from home. The successful candidate must remain responsive during agreed working hours and attend the Richmond Hill office when required.

Key Responsibilities

  • Draft and revise family court forms, pleadings, affidavits, financial statements, motions, settlement offers, and correspondence
  • Prepare, serve, file, and organize court documents
  • Manage disclosure, productions, undertakings, refusals, and follow-ups
  • Assist with motions, conferences, hearings, mediations, and trial preparation
  • Prepare briefs, evidence binders, document books, chronologies, and witness materials
  • Monitor court deadlines, limitation periods, filing requirements, and file progress
  • Communicate with clients to request documents, provide updates, and arrange meetings
  • Liaise with courts, opposing counsel, process servers, experts, and other parties
  • Conduct legal and procedural research
  • Maintain accurate, organized, and up-to-date client files
  • Assist with scheduling, docketing, billing records, and task management
  • Proactively identify outstanding tasks and support lawyers in moving files toward resolution

Qualifications

  • Law Clerk diploma or equivalent legal education
  • At least 2 years of Canadian law firm experience
  • Experience in family law, civil litigation, or business litigation is preferred
  • Familiarity with the Ontario Family Law Rules and Rules of Civil Procedure
  • Strong English communication, writing, research, and proofreading skills
  • Excellent organization and attention to detail
  • Ability to manage multiple files, priorities, and deadlines
  • Comfortable working independently and closely with a small team
  • Honest, dependable, professional, and client-focused

Technology Skills

The successful candidate must be comfortable learning and using technology to improve accuracy and efficiency, including:

  • Microsoft Word, Excel, Outlook, and cloud-based document systems
  • PDF editing, merging, redacting, bookmarking, and document organization
  • Legal practice-management and court-filing platforms
  • AI-assisted tools for research, document review, organization, and drafting support
  • Digital task management, file naming, and workflow systems

AI tools must be used responsibly, with careful review, confidentiality, and professional judgment. Accuracy and attention to detail remain essential.
